Imagine its 8am on a Monday morning, your alarm clock is screaming at you to get up after only a few hours of rest. Do you turn it off, groan and fall back asleep or get up and get ready for the day? I think most of us would love to fall right back asleep but this extra sleep comes at a price, as does everything in life. We are losing precious moments of our day, class time, time to do our homework or time to experience things we aren't expecting. With all that said and done, is it really worth that extra hour of sleep? Yesterday, I was doing some reading for my microeconomics class and a principle they were teaching really hit home for me. Its called the Principle of Opportunity Cost. If any of you have taken this class before than you know where this is going. This lesson explained that every choice we make comes at a cost, we are giving up resources for one thing while trying to achieve another. I started to think about my life and some of the choices I make, I'd like to think that most of them are decent ones, but when it comes to school..lately I've been slacking. Every day we are given 24 hours, 1440 minutes, 86,400 seconds to make choices, to experience things and to make something of our day. Every day we debit our account of life and once those moments are gone, they are lost forever. They can never be credited back, there are no refunds, and definitely no loans. The question is: what are you doing with your time? If you were to look back in 10 years, would you be proud of what you spent your time doing? Was there something to show for your time spent? We often lose sight of the purpose of life, other choices can cloud our minds and fog our priorities. The important thing as that we get back on track, we remember that life is short and days will only occur once in your lifetime. Who's to say you'll make it passed next week, or next month? There is no road map for your life, every place you end up was caused by a choice you made and every choice comes at a cost. The opportunity cost of something is what you sacrifice to get it. You may think at times that things are free, say for example your friend asks you to help them write a paper and in return they will buy you dinner. Seems fair right? Though you got a free dinner in return you still lost an hour out of your day to do so. Now, i'm not saying helping others is a waste of your time because that is very important but just remember that nothing in life is free. Every choice we make affects the choice after that one. You could spend your days playing video games, partying, doing anything but being productive, but at the end of the day ask yourself, was that worth my time? This was no meant to make you believe that every day of your life should be strictly business because as you know, I love life and I whole-heartily believe in having fun. Its just important to keep in the back of your mind, that every choice comes at a cost, and only you can decide if that sacrifice is worth it. Have a fantastic day and use your time wisely! :)
Hello everyone! I am sending in my computer to be fixed so this will be last post for awhile. I hope everyone has been enjoying their last days of summer and freedom before a new school year is underway! I don't know about you but I am ready for that beautiful fall season. Gorgeous leaves falling, football games, coats and scarves and lots of coffee! I love fall in Oregon! We live in the most gorgeous place on earth. We are so blessed! I hope everyone has a great rest of the week! With love,
For the last week I have been battling a pretty hefty illness that has taken me away from my normal life and daily experiences. Now that I am healthy enough to write, I can't wait to start this post! I have been itching to tell you what I've been feeling and thinking. Yesterday afternoon, after I awoke (I've been sleeping a lot) I walked outside and was surprised to find a gorgeous gift from above...Rain. I am an Oregonian and sometimes do complain about the massive amount of moisture we are given, but in this moment, I felt happy and excited that it was raining. The brisk breeze and the sound of rain drops hitting the pavement brought a smile to my face. For the first time in a few weeks, I felt refreshed like my illness, discontentment, and pain had been washed away. I grabbed a quick latte, got in line to receive my OSU football ticket and soaked it up...literally. As I was driving home, drenched in water, I started smiling and laughing all by myself. To others on the outside, I probably looked like a lunatic but I was genuinely happy for that split second. Not a care in the world to think about. There are days when I can think of a million things to complain about, I mean can't we all do that? What a special gift I was given yesterday. A remembrance that though things are not always perfect for me, I am still beyond lucky to have life and a life filled with so much love and compassion. I needed a rainy day to show me sunshine and now I can see clearly again. Have a beautiful day everyone, even if you feel it is a rainy one, look for the sunshine hidden behind the clouds.
School is starting in three weeks.! I can't believe how quickly the summer went by and I am already starting my sophomore year of college. This is crazy! I am really excited for my first real Fall experience here at OSU. Football games, tailgating, friends and parties. Its all going to be so amazing! Last year, I gave all that up for a relationship and though that was the right choice for me at the time, this is the right choice for me now. I cannot wait for these new experiences, my new house with my new roommates. It is all going to be amazing! I'm vouching to do better in school this year and focus on my education, that's always been important to me but I lost sight of that last spring. Here it goes! Sophomore year at OSU. I am so lucky. ♥
I've just recently come across a new TV show on MTV. It's called "If You Really Knew Me". I'm sure some if not most of you all have heard about it but if you haven't taken some time out of your day to watch it, I suggest you do that. When I began watching it, I expected it to be a sappy, corny and a fake show made just for ratings. That judgment I had made so quickly and easily had only proven that I needed to watch that show. The shows main purpose is to teach its viewers and students and faculty apart of it that we're taught to put up a wall and we forget that others have walls as well. While watching this I began to think about my life and the people in it. I try to be insightful, bright and happy all the time because I know it makes others happy. I am a very cheerful person but that doesn't mean I don't have a wall put up either. I've realized that I too pass judgment, I can easily hurt someone like someone can easily hurt me, I sometimes say things I don't mean to seem strong or comical. If I have hurt anyone while doing this then I am publicly apologizing for that. I would love to speak with you about this and apologize in a more personal way. Please contact me because from this day forward, I will try and rid of these habits. I don't want a negative thought about me planted in someones head. Yes, people will think and feel what they want, but if I had any role in that conclusion then it is my job to try and fix it. Life is too short to hate others or think negative thoughts about them. I am learning as I go, I am no where near perfect, but I know I am headed in the right direction. If you have a chance to watch that show, please do it. It will change your outlook on life, the way you treat people, and how you view yourself. This will only work if you accept the challenge, apologize for your wrong doings, and want to make a change in your life. If you really knew me...you'd know I would never want to hurt anyone. Accept the challenge and Be The Change! :)
Its been quite awhile since my last post, I apologize for that. I've just recently gotten back from a wonderful week in Texas with my family. During this week, I was reminded about the value of family, the closeness they bring, the laughter you can share, and the love that is undeniably strong. When you are states away from each other these things can be forgotten, but the moment you meet again, things are back to where they were like time hadn't passed and your lives hadn't drastically changed. During this week, I found a peace I've been searching for. A refreshing feeling if you will, something I couldn't find here. I can only hope our time apart won't be 2 years like it has been in the past because I've realized family is everything to me. I love y'all (thought it was only appropriate ;) given the circumstances). Though leaving was terribly hard, my life back here in Oregon is in full swing. I'm ready for new experiences and some old ones reappearing. I'm a very happy girl at this moment. Life is wonderful and I am all smiles. :)
